The appearance of vertical cross sections in the region of Waves are of course highly dependent on their locations relative to the Waves. Three different types have been investigated:

• slightly upstream from the Wave point and normal to the Cold Front:
  the result is a typical Cold Front cross section (see Cold Front );
• slightly downstream from the Wave point and normal to the Warm Front:
  the result is a typical Warm Front cross section (see Warm Front Band , Warm Front Shield and Detached Warm Front );
• cutting the bulge of the Wave cloudiness close to the Wave point:
  usually in such a cross section the Warm Front shows up very well (but it could not yet be clarified if there are additional characteristic Wave features included).
