WAVE - TYPICAL APPEARANCE IN VERTICAL CROSS SECTIONS
by ZAMG
The appearance of vertical cross sections in the region of Waves are of course highly dependent on their locations relative to the Waves. Three different types have been investigated:
- slightly upstream from the Wave point and normal to the Cold Front:
the result is a typical Cold Front cross section (see
Cold Front
);
- slightly downstream from the Wave point and normal to the Warm Front:
the result is a typical Warm Front cross section (see
Warm Front Band
,
Warm Front Shield
and
Detached Warm Front
);
- cutting the bulge of the Wave cloudiness close to the Wave point:
usually in such a cross section the Warm Front shows up very well (but it could not yet be clarified if there
are additional characteristic Wave features included).
