DECOUPLING OF CLOUD LAYERS IN DIFFERENT HEIGHTS - SHORT SUMMARY
by ZAMG
- The movement of low and middle cloud layers is hindered at the mountain ranges. The Stau process will thicken the cloud.
- High cloud crosses the mountain range without significant hindrance;
- Consequently the two parts of the frontal cloud band become decoupled:
- The low level front is retarded at mountains;
- The upper level front moves ahead over the mountains and shows no orographic influence.
