An extended narrow cloud feature can be seen from the western edge of the image extending to about 50N/20W and further to W. Irelnd.
Typical cloud configurations
White in IR and WV, grey in VIS;
Elongated (several 100s to 1000 km) very narrow cloud bands (10 - 50 km);
In WV Dark Stripe on the cyclonic side;
Associated with the jet axis;
Fibres sometimes cross frontal cloud bands.
Relevant numerical parameters and their typical distribution
Zero line of shear vorticity at 300 hPa to indicate the jet axis;
Zero line sometimes shifted 2 - 3 degrees in the anticyclonic direction of fibre (espially at the leading edge of warm front shields), indicating
inclination of jet axis with height;
Isotachs at 300 hPa, as indication for jet intensity and the location of entrance and exit regions.
