Cumulonimbus Clouds Viewed with the 13.3 Micron Channel

This image shows cumulonimbus clouds viewed with the GOES-12 13.3 micron carbon dioxide channel. This image shows cumulonimbus clouds viewed with the GOES-8 10.7 micron longwave infrared window channel

• Very low brightness temperature comparable to 10.7 channel
• Small contibution to brightness temperature from CO2 emission above cloud top
• Brightness temperature change relative to longwave infrared window useful for determining cloud-top pressure
• Thinner cirrus at anvil edge colder than in 10.7 channel
