Cumulus Clouds Viewed with the 13.3 Micron Channel

This image shows cumulus clouds viewed with the GOES-12 13.3 micron carbon dioxide channel This image shows cumulus clouds viewed with the GOES-12 10.7 micron longwave infrared window channel.

• Difficult to discriminate due to brightness temperature contribution from CO2 emission
• Partial pixel coverage causes temperature bias
• Brightness temperature change relative to longwave infrared window useful for determining cloud-top pressure
