Discussion
The microwave sensing capabilities of today's NOAA and DMSP polar satellites are expanding the amount of hydrometeorological information available to weather forecasters across oceanic and other data-sparse regions. Microwave precipitation products and numerical model forecasts together, are helping forecasters to improve short-term forecasts of precipitation.
b) does not apply here; the combination of the 3.7-µm shortwave and 11-µm longwave infrared imaging channels is best for the detection of fires/hot spots.
