A loop of base reflectivity from the Mobile, Alabama (MOB) NEXRAD radar shows the slow movement of Georges. Its north to northeasterly motion fell below 4 knots as the eye made landfall east of Biloxi. Even as Georges rapidly weakened, its slow movement over the next 12 hours was to result in rainfall totals approaching 100-year records.

A sequence of hourly multi-sensor precipitation totals generated by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction, and referred to as the National Precipitation Analysis (NPA), highlights the accumulation of heavy rainfall across southern Mississippi and Alabama, to the western Florida Panhandle. Storm totals, shown on the next page, will exceed 10 and even 20 inches in many areas across this region.
