The cloud mask is the net result of the cloud detection algorithm that determines if clouds are present in the High-Resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder (HIRS) field-of-view (FOV). The cloud mask indicates a yes (white) or no (blue) decision for each FOV. For FOVs flagged as cloudy, AMSU microwave channels and not the HIRS channels are used to derive temperature and moisture soundings. |
