Both POES and GOES soundings were retrieved for this location thanks to mostly clear conditions. Notice that while the vertical structure in both soundings compares reasonably well, middle and upper tropospheric levels appear drier in the POES sounding. Recall that both POES and GOES retrievals are strongly influenced by their respective first guess profiles. At this location the GOES first guess (based on a 6-hour AVN forecast) is wetter throughout a deep layer whereas the POES first guess (based on a RAOB library match) begins to dry out above 800 mb.
