POES provides continuous global coverage through sequential orbital data, with observations occurring most frequently over polar regions. The combined cross-track scanning and orbital track motion of each POES satellite results in essentially complete viewing of all earth locations in a 12-hour period. Viewing is most complete in the over polar regions, where swaths from consecutive orbits overlap. Alternately, over low latitudes, there are gaps between consecutive orbits where no viewing occurs.
