GOES provides complete regional coverage centered above the sub-satellite point on the equator. The combined cross-track scanning geometry of the stationary GOES satellite provides optimal viewing within about 60 degrees from the satellite subpoint. The viewing of polar regions is minimal, currently restricted to between 5 and 50 degrees north latitude. Viewing is refreshed for the CONUS every hour, and about every 3 to 6 hours for select sectors covering lower latitudes. |
