Temperature profiles are measured as point values along the vertical path of the balloon's flight. A fixed number of mandatory levels (surface, 1000, 850, 700, 500, 400, and 300 mb) and a variable number of significant levels are typically provided (up to at least 300 mb, sometimes 50 mb).
