In this 24-hour animation, diurnal changes in surface temperature are evident. Notice the large diurnal temperature variation over land, while over water there is almost no diurnal variability because of water’s higher heat capacity. Notice in the color enhanced loop, where surface temperatures are highlighted, that temperature variations are more evident over land than over water.
