Shortwave IR Window Channel (3.9 micron)

Emissivity Differences: The Fog/Stratus Product in Animation (Page 5 of 7)

Return to the previous menu.

A four-panel animating composite showing GOES-8 3.9 micron, 10.7 micron, derived fog/stratus product, and surface observation images

This animation shows 3.9 and 10.7 micron channel imagery as well as the fog product and surface observations.

Notice that neither the 3.9 nor the 10.7 micron channels alone locate the fog and stratus areas, while these areas are clearly seen in the fog product. Also note that surface hourly observations do not show the total extent of the fog.

The visible channel imagery at sunrise confirms the accuracy of the fog product.
