Dark Enhancement at Sunset (Page 16 of 18)

Return to the previous menu.

An animation of a hurricane viewed by the GOES-8 visible channel with the enhancement maximized for times near sunset

This enhancement maximizes detail in the image at 23:30 Z. When this enhancement is applied to the entire loop, detail across the hurricane shield is lost during the early portion of the loop because the maximum brightness detected at sunset is exceeded by the brightness of the cirrus shield earlier in the day. However, notice how well details in darker areas, such as shadows and haze, are apparent throughout the entire time period.
